Publication Grants 2023 funds publishers, institutions, and authors to offset costs incurred in producing works of scholarship in print or in other media.

Eligibility

  • Paul Mellon Centre does not offer grants and fellowships in field archaeology, the current practice of architecture, or the performing arts.
  • Applications in photography, performance, film, and digital media will need to demonstrate their relevance to British art studies.
  • Applications will be considered for both long and short-form (articles) texts.
  • Applications to support the publication of exhibition catalogs are also accepted.
  • The Publication grants are intended to support the author and publisher production costs as listed in the Scope section of this guidance.
  • Fees related to open-access publications are not eligible under this program of funding.

Benefits

  • Publication Grants 2023 provides a maximum of £10,000 with the award being paid in a lump sum to the publisher.
  • Alternatively, a publisher may apply separately for publishing costs of up to £7,000 or an author may apply separately for costs concerning image reproductions of up to £3,000. Application Process

Application Process

To apply for a Publication Grant, you must use their online system at grants.paul-mellon-centre.ac.uk.

Once registered you will be able to fill out the online application form (an example of which can be downloaded below) and provide the details of one referee. The option to provide the referee details will be available once the application is submitted. They will contact the nominated referee with details on how they can submit their reference which must be completed through their online system and must be no more than five hundred words.
