Research and Capacity Building Fund
Food Waste Prevention and Diversion: The Research and Capacity Building Fund targets research and capacity-building opportunities for reducing and/or diverting food and other organic waste from landfills. Project outcomes with the ability to be leveraged by others across Canada to support policy, program, or project development are encouraged.
Eligibility
- All projects must take place in Canada.
Local governments, including Indigenous governments, are eligible to receive funding. Applicants must fall into one of the following categories:
- Domestic Indigenous governments
- Municipal and local governments
Benefits
Projects can receive funding ranging from $75,000 to a maximum of $150,000.
There’s no requirement for matching funds, but applicants are encouraged to seek additional financial support or in-kind contributions from project partners. It’s essential for applicants to disclose all funding sources for the project.
Food Waste Prevention and Diversion: The Research and Capacity Building Fund-eligible expenses can cover:
- Human resources, such as salaries and benefits directly related to project activities,
- Costs for consultants and contractors involved in project activities
- Management and professional services, like accounting, audits, and legal fees specific to the project
- Travel and field expenses (refer to the National Joint Council’s website for kilometric rates)
- Materials, supplies, communication, production, distribution, and printing costs
- Rentals and purchases of equipment, including research and laboratory tools.
- Vehicle rental and operational expenses
- A reasonable portion of overhead and administrative costs directly linked to project execution, such as office supplies and rent,
