Fundraising from Corporations

Corporations play a growing role in the world of philanthropy and giving. Maybe you even know some NGOs who have received substantial grants from corporations and who are benefitting from this partnership. There is huge potential for organizations to work together with corporations and businesses, as they have much more to offer than only financial support.

If you have ever tried to get this kind of funding, you probably also know that it is not as easy as it might look from the outside. Many cold emails go unanswered, other times the corporation says they have already spent their budget or simply have no interest. So how can you tap into this huge potential for your NGO and also benefit from the resources in the corporate sector?

One problem is, that we talk a different language in the NGO sector and that we mostly have a very different organizational culture. If you use the same tools you have learned for fundraising from established donors with corporations, you will probably encounter a problem: they don’t understand you. To be successful, you have to learn their language, understand their intentions, and present yourself in an attractive way. How do you do that? Well, this is what we are here for.

We have developed a comprehensive online course to teach you how to approach corporations and how to turn these contacts into fruitful cooperation. Our trainer Christopher has fundraised from corporations for the last 10 years and shares his experiences from the field with you in a series of interviews. In the course we will cover the following topics:

  • Corporations Growing Role in Giving
  • Corporate Motivations for Giving
  • Vetting & Ethical Considerations
  • How to identify a potential partner
  • Developing a Contact Strategy and Sales Pitch

After finishing the course, you will have a sales pitch for corporations that you want to contact and will have a much better idea of how to talk to them to make your point. You will know how to successfully incorporate corporate funding in your fundraising strategy and what you have to look out for.
