USAID Egypt is calling for applications for the Teach for Tomorrow program. The program aims to support the Ministry of Education in its quest to enhance the quality of teacher training and to implement the education reform in the country. The deadline for applications is August 26th.
This opportunity is open for applications for any organization. The key personnel has to fulfill very specific requirements though. The organization needs significant experience in teacher education, educational policy and reform, and the education system in Egypt. The applicant also needs to show a thorough knowledge of the international best practices/experiences in educators’ continuous professional development and educators’ certification and incentivization.
USAID will award one applicant with a grant from US$ 10 to 16 million to implement the program in the country. It has to cover two aspects:
The main goal is to support the Ministry of Education in Egypt with the implementation of the education reform and to develop systems that encourage constant progress in teacher education. The program should help the ministry to cultivate well-prepared teachers- whose approach will shift from a lecturing style to a facilitator style, whereby educators enhance critical thinking, inquiry, and problem-solving skills in students.
Applications under this Notification of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) should include a plan that suits the sociopolitical context and logistical realities of Egypt while helping the Ministry of Education to achieve its reform goals and objectives. Applications should also propose plans to effectively engage the private sector in supporting the education reform plans as they pertain to professional development and educator incentivization the creation of lasting partnerships.

The proposal consists of a technical part and a budget part and needs to follow strictly the format given on the website. To apply, organizations need to be registered with the USAID internal system. This might take up to two weeks, so make sure to start this process in advance if you think about applying.

Successful proposals will build on local ownership and sustainability. As part of USAID’s focus on the Journey to Self-Reliance, it is essential that activities are designed to last beyond the duration of the activity. This means gaining government buy-in and working within existing systems and country contexts. Also, it means you should put particular emphasis on the development of your sustainability plan in your proposal.
