Tips for applying to the UK Aid Community Partnership Grant

The UK Department of International Development (DFID)  has opened its call for applications for the UK Aid Community Partnership Grant. The call is open for small NGOs and the maximum amount one organization can apply for is 250,000 pounds for projects lasting three years or less. The deadline to apply for this opportunity is the 17th of April 2019.

Who can apply for the UK Aid Community Partnership Grant?

The UK Aid Community Partnership Grant is open for applications from organizations that are registered in the UK or in one of the 50 countries ranking lowest in the Human Development Index (HDI). Also, organizations that are registered in a country that is considered to be of high or moderate fragility by the UK Department of International Development. To be eligible, the average annual income of the organization for the last three years must be under 1 million pounds.

What can be funded with the UK Aid Community Partnership Grant?

With the UK Aid Community Partnership Grant, a variety of projects that fall under the focus areas of DFID priorities. These areas are:

  • strengthening global peace,
  • security and governance
  • strengthening resilience and response to the crisis
  • promoting global prosperity
  • tackling extreme poverty and helping the world’s most vulnerable
  • delivering value for money

A specific percentage of funding is reserved to tackle urban poverty, so projects that work in this area are specifically encouraged to apply.

How to apply for the UK Aid Community Partnership Grant?

The application process for the UK Aid Community Partnership Grant is a two-stage process. In the first stage, you will be asked to submit a concept note. Only successful applicants will be invited to submit a full proposal in the second stage. To access the form for the concept note, you have to make a user profile on the platform that UK Aid uses for its submissions.

UK Aid Community Partnership Grants – What to look out for?

There are very detailed guidelines on all aspects of the proposal writing process, and even some videos available on the website. Make sure you check these guidelines thoroughly and follow them exactly.

In past funding rounds, projects that clearly identified, who exactly is benefiting, what the project is proposing to achieve, why the project is needed, and how the project will be implemented were the most successful. Make sure that you are very clear in your language and help the donor to understand, what your project is about.
