The Joke Waller-Hunter (JWH) Initiative has opened the call for applications for its support program for young environmental leaders.
Young people from developing countries can be nominated for the price and win up to 7000 Euros for their personal development.
The deadline for this opportunity is August 9th 2019.
Who can apply to the JWH Initiative for Young Environmental Leaders?
To be eligible for this program, young leaders have to be nominated. It is not possible to self-nominate.
Candidates should be:
- ‘Young’ people who work or are affiliated with environmental CSO’s in developing countries and emerging economies who have shown potential for and interest in further developing their leadership.
- Young generally means under 35 in these circumstances.
- The candidate, furthermore, has to have proof of an excellent track record in: fully embracing the idea of sustainable development with a focus on ecological sustainability; being committed to working for the CSO sector; showing potential and ambition towards becoming a leader in their field of work, such as being inspirational to others, working with communities and others.
Which activities can be funded?
The grant can be used for different activities, depending on the individuals’ need and interest. Most common is to use the funding for advancing either the knowledge and skills through studies, courses, trainings; or their expanding experience through internships, exposure and exchange travels, participation in conferences, high level meetings etc. The candidates should have a clear idea and plan on what it is that they intend to use the grant for before applying. The money cannot be used for projects or activities that do not directly contribute to the furthering of the development of the individual.
How to apply for the JWH Initiative for Young Environmental Leaders?
It is only possible to be nominated for this opportunity. The nominators are from Environmental Civil Society Organizations and normally have a long working history with The JWH Initiative. If there is no prior connection between the nominator and the JWH Initiative, they might be asked to provide additional information. The nominator vouches for the candidate’s integrity and has to cosign the agreement.
To nominate a candidate, nominators have to fill out the nomination form from the website.
Here, they have to give detailed information about the candidate, the goals and objectives of the activities that should be funded with the grant and the budget. Furthermore, the CV and a picture have to be submitted.
Best of luck with your applications!
