Aidsfonds is calling for applications for its “Stay On” Grant program for people living with HIV in Ethiopia, Mozambique, Nigeria and South Africa. The deadline for this opportunity is 12 September 2019 and each program can be supported with US$ 300,000 to 600,000. Programs should support target communities to receive and sustain care throughout their lives.
Who can apply?
This opportunity is open for registered organizations from Ethiopia, Mozambique, Nigeria or South Africa. Individuals cannot apply. The applicants need to be non-profit and non-governmental organizations and it is strongly recommended that they are community driven. If a consortium of partners applies, one of the partners can be unregistered, but the lead applicant needs to be.
What can be funded with the “Stay On” Grant program?
With many people infected with HIV now receiving care and being diagnosed, the aim of the “Stay On” Grant program is to ensure that these people seek care throughout their lives. In the long run, this contributes to lower infection rates and better quality of life.
The specific objectives of this call are:
- Expand successful approaches to ensure a person living with HIV will grow old in good care. This means work at four levels:
-
- PLHIV are supported to adhere to treatment throughout all phases of life;
- PLHIV have access to lifelong quality treatment;
- The healthcare system, which includes community-based approaches, is equipped to retain PLHIV in quality care;
- Structural barriers hampering PLHIV to remain in care are reduced.
- Reach long-term sustainability through national government taking responsibility for systems to retain PLHIV in care throughout their lives.
The programs that can be run under this grant will have to be implemented within a timeframe of 3 years from 2020 to 2023. The focus of the foundations work is on at-risk populations to drop out of treatment.
How to apply?
To apply for this opportunity, applicants need to register in the Aidsfonds online system and submit their application through this system. The application needs to be written in English. You have to download the budget and results framework and carefully fill this out for all three years of the duration of the program.
This has to be submitted with the rest of the proposal that will cover the usual parts like justification, target communities, expected results, theory of change, etc. The foundation gives very specific guidelines to fill out the proposal format, so make sure to follow them. Finally, you have to submit the names of two potential reviewers from the field that know your work.
What to look out for?
When you apply for the “Stay On” grant program, make sure to put emphasis on the fact that your organization is community driven and led, if this is the case. Also, be very clear on who your beneficiaries are and how you will include at-risk populations to keep them from dropping out of care. Also, take into account gender and its implications for the care of HIV patients.
