Tips to apply to the Winrock International Grant Program, Nepal

Winrock International has opened its call for Expression of Interest (EoI) for its grant program to support efforts to combat human trafficking in Nepal at the provincial and local government level. The deadline for applications is June 13th 2019.

In this article, we will give you some tips on how to apply for this opportunity.

Who can apply for the Winrock International Grant Program?

The program is open to all Nepali civil society organizations, networks, membership-based organizations and federations that have extensive work experience (at least 3 years) in counter trafficking in persons (CTIP) or safe migration issues.

The grant is geographically focused on the following areas:

  • Province 3 – Makwanpur, Kathmandu, Nuwakot, and Sindhupalchowk
  • Province 5 – Rupendehi, Kapilbastu, Banke and Bardiya
  • Province 7 – Kailali and Kanchanpur

The Winrock International Grant program is looking for organizations that can cover all of the provinces and give out subgrants to local organizations. At the minimum, applicants must be able to cover all target districts in one of the provinces.

What can be funded with this program?

The main objectives that should be achieved by this program are the following:

  • Objective 1: Strengthening federal, provincial and local Government of Nepal (GON) efforts to combat TIP;
  • Objective 2: Improving Civil Society Organization (CSO) advocacy and engagement to address TIP; and
  • Objective 3: Increasing private sector partnerships (PSPs) to service TIP survivors andat-risk populations.

The scope of work depends on the needs of the provinces, but will likely include the following:

  • Support target local governments (approximately 4 per district) to hold two public consultations each year with the community and CSOs on CTIP and/or safe migration policies
  • Support target local governments (approximately 4 per district) to provide training one time per year to every ward committee in the municipality on CTIP
  • Support the district committee to control human trafficking to provide CTIP training to every target local government at least two times per year.
  • Support an annual, provincial level CTIP review for target local governments
  • Provide technical support to policy development on CTIP and safe migration by target local governments
  • Support improved data collection on CTIP and migration by the relevant ward committees, local government and CSOs in the province
  • Engage in monitoring, reporting and advocacy on priority issues at the provincial, district and local levels related to CTIP and safe migration
  • Convene quarterly district-level CTIP referral network meetings to support information sharing and joint advocacy among CSOs and to strengthen referrals and victim identification for cases involving human trafficking
  • Others

How to apply?

To apply for this opportunity, interested organizations must submit their documents electronically and in English language until the 13th of June 2019 to the email given on the website. The documents include the EoI, the organizations profile in the given format and the work history. The EoI needs to be limited to 3 pages.

Winrock International will invite short-listed organizations to participate in a co-creation design process for the scope of work and budget.

What to look out for?

When filling out the templates, make sure to answer all questions and follow the guidelines meticulously. The focus on your work history and organizational profile indicates, that a lot of importance will be put on your perceived ability to implement the program, so make sure that this is clear from your documents.

Best of luck with your application.
